ACA looks into Anwar's report on IGP, AG

PUTRAJAYA, July 2 – The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) today swiftly launched investigations into Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's report claiming that the country's top policeman and top legal officer had fabricated evidence in his "black-eye" assault by a former police chief in 1998.

Anwar claimed in a police report yesterday that  Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan and Attorney-General, Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail had helped concoct evidence contrary to proof that former IGP Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Noor had assaulted him while in detention.

"We will investigate the matter without fear or favour and the investigation has already started," ACA director-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan said today, confirming that the headquarters have received a copy of Anwar's report.

He disclosed that the investigations will be headed by the agency's investigations director, Datuk Shukri Abdull.

Anwar had claimed he had proof of the duo's misconduct but was derailed from exposing it when his personal aide accused him of sodomy over the weekend. Police are now investigating the sexual misconduct claims, the second in 10 years against Anwar.

Newspapers reported that police have classified the case as sodomy following a medical report on the accuser,  Saiful Bukhari Azlan, that confirmed he had anal intercourse. The 23-year-old university dropout is now under police protection.
